Endek fabrics are among the most popular and intriguing textiles in Bali, with the earliest known endek dating back to the late 19th century and tracing its origins to the North Balinese kingdom of Buleleng. Endek-making is a labour of love and patience, with the weavers taking up to three months to produce, color and weave the fabric’s threads.  Though endek fabric remains in high demand by locals and tourists alike, the struggle to preserve the hand-based craft continues.

The support of these crafts helps sustain and promote traditional, indigenous village handicrafts so that they can be enjoyed by future generations. The craftspeople are also encouraged to improved efficiency and environmental sustainability. The group is involved in sustainable education, re-forestation, organic farming, community empowerment projects, and makes contributions to the GreenSchool Bali scholarship fund.
