Island Tribe Knits is a socially responsible business guided by Fair Trade principles. The company is run by Rhonda who, along with her two children, lives in the heart of the redwoods of Northern California. Island Tribe Knits has worked with the same family of knit manufactures for over 10 years and have been in business for over 20. All of our products our hand made, we work on hand operated knit machines. Our pattern makers and technicians are some of the best on the island (Bali). We work closely with the owner to continuously upgrade not just our quality but the quality of the work place.
Although Island Tribe is not Fair Trade Certified, the business is operated with Fair Trade Principles. Employees receive above standard living wage and have lovely, clean, bright working conditions. Artisans are always honored the days off requested for ceremony, and receive sick leave and maternity leave. We have a great working atmosphere and opportunity for advancement. As part of our commitment to the community we help support a Balinese family that has been a part of our family for 23 years. Providing medical care and medicines not just for this family but for the village they live in. We have also provided college tuition, transportation and clothing for the children.
We have also supported many foundations and disaster relief funds throughout the years for the people, and animals of Bali and greater Indonesia including 3 community health and childbirth centers. Rhonda also supports causes close to home including fire victim relief.
